History
Each individual is the product of his or her personal history. One’s achievements originate in developments in the past. It is no difference for companies.
Ferus Smit as our shipyard is now known, has a long history dating back for over 100 years. It spans two world wars, but also an industrial revolution, the Great Depression of the 1920’s, the eighties, and our present times…The existence of Ferus Smit was even threatened some times, but the yard always successfully managed to weather all storms. Its development went through many stages; from schooner to 23000 DWT general cargo bulker, from cotton sails to 12 cylinder diesels, from riveting to automatic welding, from humble barn in the mud to ultra-modern facilities.
What we have learnt from our past is to keep a look-out forward, also further than tomorrow. To go your own course, also when others seem to choose an other heading.
To relentlessly keep looking for possible improvements, because even the smallest ones will make a difference in the end.
That is what was kept the same over all the years: … Improvement as tradition
For those who are interested in the complete history of our yard, you can read further in a book named “Ferus smit, een behouden vaart”, written by Hein Bloemink, 1994.
