Nb. 405 ‘Roerborg’ successfully launched

On Friday the 4th of July, M.V. Roerborg was successfully launched at the Ferus Smit yard in Leer, Germany.

M.V. ‘Roerborg’, built as yard number 405, is the third and last unit in a series of 3 multi purpose cargo ships to be delivered to Wagenborg shipping in Delfzijl. These ships are the biggest ever built at Ferus Smit shipyards, and will also sail as the largest vessels in the Wagenborg fleet. They have following dimensions:
– Loa 169.75 mtr
– B 20.40 mtr
– Tmax 9.718 mtr
– Deadweight abt 23.300 tons
– Hold volume 945.000 cft

The vessel is equipped with a main engine delivering 4500 kW to a ducted propeller. Differing from the first ship in this series, M.V. ‘Roerborg’ is equipped with a higher deckhouse to create better vision lines when shipping high project deck cargoes.

The characteristic and innovative ‘bulbless’ bow shape brings this design a number of ‘green’ advantages. Her longer and sharper waterlines create less resistance, irrespective of her loading draft. At the same time this shape creates more deadweight and cargo volume within her absolute dimensions. Above the waterline the more slender form will cut gradually through waves, improving performance in rough conditions, while the negative stemprofile was proved to be also advantageous when breaking through ice sheets.

Delivery of M.V. ‘Roerborg’ is scheduled for september 2014.
